Description:

Phosphate Buffered Saline 1x PBS with 0.1%w/v Sodium Azide. (1X PBS with Azide)

This ubiquitous buffer is supplied with the preservative sodium azide already incorporated into the solution. Supplied 0.2 micron filtered in a ready to use format.

For use in immunology, molecular biology and other life science techniques as a storage buffer.

It is a water-based salt solution containing sodium chloride, sodium phosphate, potassium chloride and potassium phosphate. Sodium azide (NaN3) is added to prevent microbial contamination.

Thus PBS with azide is also useful as a storage buffer.

When staining or treating live cells with antibodies, or if using antibodies for in vivo studies, solutions containing sodium azide should not be used as it is toxic to most organisms and blocks the cytochrome electron transport system.

Sodium Azide solution is used as a preservative in gel filtration columns and PBS with azide is a suitable solution to use.

This product is not recommended for use with any conjugation that involves an amine group  and should be removed before proceeding with the conjugation.

The  sodium azide is generally removed from solutions by dialysis or gel filtration.
