Description:

Ethidium Bromide staining of DNA by intercalation within the Nucleotide structure is a tried and tested method for the visualisation of DNA in Agarose or Acrylamide gels under UV conditions.

The solutions are used to detect both single stranded and double stranded DNA.  As this material is a known carcinogen and mutagen its use, though widespread, particularly as a powder, is of concern to most workers.  The easiest method of reducing the hazard is to supply the material as a solution ready made to the desired concentration.
