Biological Buffers Information
Severn Biotech provides a range of pre-filtered formulated buffer concentrates for a range of Molecular and Cell Biology applications. These products not only offer the busy lab considerable time and money saving but also eliminate errors in weighing, mixing and pH adjustment.
- Made from ultra-pure reagents, including Molecular Biology Grade water (18 mega-ohm)
- Filtered through 0.2 micron glass fibre and nylon to elimate particulate matter and bacteria
- Each lot tested for DNase, RNase and protease activity
- Water is LAL tested for pyrogens prior to use. (Limulus Amoebocyte Lysate Assay)
Typical Applications of Buffers: Genomic and Proteomic Studies
Gel Electrophoresis – TBE, TAE, TPE, Tris EDTA, Tris-Glycine
Western Blotting – Tris-Glycine, Maleic acid/Sodium Chloride buffer
Nucleic Acid Hybridisation – SSPE, SSC
Protein Denaturation – Tris-Glycine, SDS
RNA Electrophoresis – MOPS EDTA
General Lab/Cell Culture – PBS, TBS, HEPES, MOPS EDTA, Maleic Acid
The following buffers are used in Cell Biology work as well as being useful in various Molecular Biology applications including electrophoresis:
- MOPS (3-[morpholino]propanesulfonic acid) EDTA
- HEPES (N-[2-hydroxyethyl]piperazine-N’-[2-ethanesulfonic acid])
- TBS (tris buffered saline)
- PBS (phosphate buffered saline)
